Food Truck Friday – this Friday in Concord

More than a dozen food trucks are expected to be at Cabarrus County Food Truck Friday (Aug. 1).

The event will be at DAV Chapter 27 at 2400 Rock Hill Church Road in Concord. That’s just off Concord Parkway at S&D Coffee and Tea.

Troutman Motors has given us permission to park in their lot! A short walk! Careful crossing the street! 

“The assisted living behind us has given us permission to park in their lot BUT A FIRE LANE MUST BE LEFT OPEN! 

“The D.A.V. has some parking BUT we ask that you use our horseshoe driveway to drop off passengers and chairs and such and park in First Assembly’s parking lot near Big Lots in front Arby’s. This is a huge parking lot and we will be running a shuttle back and forth the entire time.

“S&D Coffee will not let you park in their lot unless someone knows the right person to contact for us. ”

Food items range in price from $2 to $10 and canned drinks are $1.

Purvis, Williamson & Delahoussaey shine in All-Star game

The East and West battled to a 10-10 tie in the annual East-West High School All-Star Game in Greensboro.

Cabarrus County was well represented with the efforts of Central Cabarrus running back Kenny Purvis and A.L. Wonders defenders Johnny Delahoussaey and Kyrell Williamson.

Purvis was a key player in the West’s rally from a 10-0 deficit in the fourth quarter. He scored on a five-yard touchdown run with 4:02 left. For the game he carried the ball 10 times for 70 yards.

On defense for the West, Delahoussaey had three solo tackles and assisted on six others. Williamson had three solo hits and assisted on another.

Asheville Citizen-Times High School Sports Huddle

Official practice for N.C. High School Athletic Association teams begins Aug. 1. The regular season begins Aug. 21 in the CharlottePreps.TV Kickoff Night and Aug. 22 for other teams including the Battle of the Bell between Concord and A.L. Brown.

Davidson Wildcats get new floor at Belk Arena

The Davidson Wildcats are now members of the Atlantic 10. Renovations and improvements are underway at John Belk Arena. Here is a time lapse video of the new floor and re-design including  the A10 logo.

Davidson has moved to the A10 for all sports except football (Pioneer Football League) and wrestling (Southern Conference).

Saturday, July 19

Sunday, July 20

Mount Pleasant History 1910-1950 – Local historian Ben Callahan will present a history including stories and pictures of the development of the small town. The program is from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society Musem, 1100 N. Main St., Mount Pleasant, N.C. Program fee $3, free for members. Concord beats Rowan County in playoffs

Concord Post 51 evened its playoff series with Rowan County at 1-1 with a 7-6 win at Central Cabarrus Tuesday.

The best of 5 series continues Wednesday in Salisbury. Game 4 is scheduled for Thursday evening at Central Cabarrus. Both games start at 7 p.m.

Junior Legion baseball: Mocksville-Davie versus O’s

Mocksville-Davie-the Kannapolis O’s Thursday at Northwest Cabarrus

The Kannapolis O’s and Mocksville-Davie battle as the Junior American Legion season winds down. Both are in the running for the playoffs which start next week. Mark Plemmons and Shaked Bar-Tal call the action beginning at 6:50 p.m. Thursday at Northwest Cabarrus.

Legion baseball: Southern Rowan at Concord

Southern Rowan versus Concord at Central Cabarrus 7 p.m.

Concord Post 51 hosts Southern Rowan as the regular season winds down and playoffs are on the line.
Concord beat Rowan County 9-8 Tuesday, while Kannapolis split a doubleheader with Stanly County, winning 8-4 and losing 4-3.

Four of the five teams make the playoffs, which begin Monday, June 30.
