Video, scores from Week 3 of Cabarrus County football

The Mount Pleasant Tigers beat Central Cabarrus 3-0 and th Concord Spiders shutout North Gaston 42-0 in the Radio Free Cabarrus spotlight games on Friday, Sept. 4.

How it happened

Mt. Pleasant forced three interceptions and kicked a 28-yard field goal in the first half for the win. Central Cabarrus had opportunities, but untimely penalties hurt the Vikings’ cause.

Central Cabarrus missed a 25-yard field goal, just wide right, that would have tied the game with just over two minutes to play.

Mount Pleasant moves to 3-0, while Central Cabarrus is 1-2 (both losses by three points).

At Concord, the Spiders held North Gaston to just 87 yards of offense, while the Concord offense got a 70-yard rushing performance from Izaiah Sanders. He scored three TDs and ran for two 2-point conversion.

QB Damorya Earl was five of seven passing for 100 yards and a TD. His favorite target was Naz Freeman, who caught two passes for 85 yards and a TD.

Other scores

A.L Brown rallied from 14 points down to win 28-27 over the Mooresville Blue Devils. It snaps an 8-game losing streak to the Blue Devils.

The Wonders defense stopped two Mooresville possession in the final five minutes to seal the victory. A.L. Brown is 3-0.

Jay M. Robinson had a running clock for the second straight week with a 42-0 win over A.C. Reynolds, a traditional powerhouse from Asheville.

The Bulldogs are 3-0 and have allow just two points all season.

Hickory Ridge pounded South Iredell 54-6. The Ragin’ Bulls evened their record at 1-1. The opening lost was by three points to Providence.

Northwest Cabarrus ran into a buzzsaw in Gastonia, losing 40-0 to Ashbrook. The loss drops the Trojans to 2-1 on the season.

Cox Mill dropped a high-scoring game on the road at Cuthbertson 51-37. The Chargers are 1-2 on the season. Last week first-year Head Coach Wes Hurlocker scored his first win 41-12 over Rocky River.

West Cabarrus dropped a 49-0 game to Lake Norman. The Wolverines are 0-3 on the season.

Cannon/Concord Academy moved to 3-0 with 49-14 win over Ravenscroft. Quarterback Luca Lopez had a big day going 13-17 for 263 yards and four touchdowns.
