Football season is here

Radio Free Cabarrus broadcast three games on opening night, Friday, Aug. 17. Our plan is to broadcast two or three games throughout the football season on the NFHS Network.

The live broadcasts are pay-per-view/subscription (monthly pass $9.95) but the broadcasts will be available free after 72 hours (still need to register with a password). Here is the subscription page that explains the options.

Here are links to the Aug. 17 games:

Mt. Pleasant at Cox Mill

West Stanly at Northwest Cabarrus

Hickory Ridge at Concord (audio issue on this broadcast, checking to see if the off-air recording has sound, if so we will post)

Here are the Aug. 24 broadcasts planned:

Hunter Huss at Cox Mill

Northwest Cabarrus at Mt. Pleasant

Central Cabarrus at Hickory Ridge

Why we’re not free

The fee structure now in place from the N.C. High School Athletic Association for broadcasts make doing the games much more expensive for broadcasters like Radio Free Cabarrus. Prior to the fee structure RFC broadcast 60 to 80 games per year.

That would not be possible if RFC didn’t participate with the NFHS Network. Our plan for this school year is to get back to that number of games.

Our aim is to give greater exposure to our local teams and to give opportunities for young broadcasters. I know most of you understood our position and your support has been greatly appreciated.

This industry is changing quickly and we are trying to keep up with the times.

We look forward to another great football season. See you at the games!

Mark Plemmons, owner/general manager

Northwest Cabarrus rolled to a win over West Stanly in the opener Friday night.
