Here are the Cream of Cabarrus Rankings heading into games of Friday, Oct. 2.

#1 Jay M. Robinson – The Bulldogs finally allowed a touchdown in the 55-7 blowout win at Salisbury. That’s nine total points in five wins. I would be surprised if Concord gives them much of a game.

#2 A.L. Brown – The Wonders pounds Harding 49-0 last week and face a big one at Memorial Stadium against defending Greater Metro Athletic Conference champion Olympic. Last year the Trojans just slipped past Kannapolis, costing the Wonders the title. A revenge game?

#3 Hickory Ridge – It’s probably not fair to leapfrog a team on its bye week, but the Ragin’ Bulls were impressive in the first half at West Cabarrus, playing without one of its best players. The 28-0 win leads into a home game with Berry in Harrisburg.

#4 Mount Pleasant – The Tigers had a bye week and jump right into Rocky River Conference action hosting Forest Hills. This is a big one. The winner takes a big step forward in the conference race.

#5 Northwest Cabarrus – The Trojans handled East Rowan on the road 41-14, building on the South Piedmont Conference opening win again previously unbeaten South Rowan. Northwest continues roll through Rowan with a game at Jesse Carson.

#6 Cannon-Concord Academy – A tough road loss to Providence Day knocked the Cougars from the ranks of the unbeaten 34-14. The task is not much easier this week with a trip to Charlotte Country Day.

The Rest of Cabarrus

Cox Mill lost another heart-breaker 30-27 to Harding. The travel across the county to Central Cabarrus. This is should a bruising game. The Chargers are getting better, but it looks like they are still trying to learn how to win.

Central Cabarrus continues be strong on defense, falling last week 22-6 to Olympic. This week, can the Vikings score enough points against a Cox Mill team that has given up some points.
Cox Mill at Central Cabarrus is a toss-up in my book.

West Cabarrus continues to look for offense. The defense gave up big plays to Hickory Ridge in the first half, which proved to be the difference in the 28-0 loss.
They showed flashes of an offense. Can they put it together at Harding. I think they get in the win column this week.

Concord competed against South Rowan last week in a 27-10 loss. The Spiders are showing signs they might be able to throw the ball. They can give teams trouble down the SPC stretch, but I don’t expect them to break out against Robinson.
